Drew Barrymore dabbles with ombré locks

drew1Oh boy.

I like Drew Barrymore. I like that she’s best buds with Cameron Diaz and that she sort of has this no-fuss approach to stardom…or so it seems. Lately she’s been gracing the covers of a few notable American glossies like Nylon and ELLE most recently and the April 2009 issue of W magazine featured an editorial that is hardly forgettable in my mind, especially for what we’re used to seeing Drew do.

I get it, she’s exploring her style options and up until now everything she’s tried out has pretty much coasted by my radar. Until now. We’re loving ombré hair this season. It looks great on Jessica Biel and Rachel Bilson. But it was only a matter of time that someone tried the trend out and succeeded in making it look more avoidable that covetable.

What do you think of Drew’s take on the ombré trend? (vote below)

Starry nights with Chanel’s Paradoxal

chanelparadoxal-2

First it was Black Satin. Then it was Jade and Particulière followed by this summer’s Nouvelle Vague. There’s no question that Chanel has been leading nail polish trends over the past few years, with some even arguing that they illustrated their cool factor as early on as 1994 with the cult shade, Vamp. The coveted brand’s latest must-have hue is Paradoxal (pictured) and it’s catching polish fiends off guard with the shimmery constellation-like results it yields. But rest assured, LOULOU’s self-proclaimed nail polish obsessed editors “promised” the It hue looks far more “out there” in bottle than it does lacquered on fingers tips. Phew! We thought we might have to justify how in the span of just one season we went from swearing off shimmery lacquer to wholeheartedly advocating it.

But don’t get too settled with this latest vampy hue– Chanel’s already onto the next best thing (like any trend setter would be). Their Khakis– a quartet of mossy shades– are just hitting shelves and with a wait list that’s already growing exponentially we’re sure these camo’ hues are the next best thing.

Is Paradoxal for you?

Rachel wears the latest

rachelbilsonFor a recent Costco shopping trip, Rachel Bilson wore an oversized striped cropped top with belted, flared jeans for a wink at the 70’s thing that’s going to be big for fall. She paired the carefree look with an Hermès Constance bag, pulling her look together with the ladylike twist of a structured tote. While I’m not entirely sure about the fit of these pants on Rachel, I love her take on the updated jeans and t-shirt look.

What are your thoughts of her approach to some of the latest trends?

Hair envy: Who’s your muse?

whitney-port-hairIt seems that if there’s one beauty related thing most of us want to emulate from our famous counterparts, it’s hair. And seeing as they have access to the best hair stylists it only makes sense that they would have an enviable head start on the coolest tresses.

While I might not harbour the most trained beauty eye (nail polish is pretty much where it begins and ends. Everything else is pure necessity), one thing I do notice is (nice) hair. Whitney Port tops my list because her perfectly imperfect blond mane is at once voluminous yet manageable (and this means a lot from the point of view of a curly haired gal) and can adopt a number of styles.

In season one of The Hills, her colourful clips, twisted strands and casual braids had me instantly longing for her Californian mane. While she’s since quit her penchant for hair accessories, her seemingly easy to style mane still gives me total hair envy.

For a more of the moment hair obsession, Rachel Bilson’s current ombré do actually has me contemplating a trip down the coloured hair road. And that’s saying a lot for my virgin hair.

A quick poll around the office yields the following hair icons: Jessica Biel, Olivia Palermo,  Sienna Miller, Vanessa Hudgens and Keri Russell (my personal curly haired fave– she does top knots like no other).

Carrie Underwood’s look: Hit or miss?

carrieunderwoodWhile everyone’s talking about Chelsea Clinton’s Vera Wang-styled nuptials (she looked stunning, for the record) I’m still trying to absorb Carrie Underwood’s outfit of choice for her Today Show appearance this past Friday (The Cut). And maybe it’s the sharp contrast of both ladies’ looks that’s exacerbating the latter.

I don’t have anything against Carrie and after seeing her A&E Biography, I was pretty much sold on her rags to riches rise to fame. But for the most part, I don’t pay her fashion sense any heed….because it’s fairly average day to day. Too bad she ended up catching my sartorial eye with this horror of a stage look.

Naïve school-girl vibe? Check. The season’s knee-socks? Check. Lady Gaga worthy heels weapons? Check. Cheerleader bob? Check. Rihanna meets Britney Spears circa the millenium? Checkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

This look is the perfect example of why one should exceed caution with trends. Even if i can only spot two trends (studs and socks worn with heels), this mish-mashed look (the tie and heels alone are making me dizzy) is begging for a clean slate.

What do you think of Ms. Underwood’s outfit choice?
