As you read in our September issue, this month our guest blogger is Hélène of Fashion Over Reason. Today, she’s blogging about her fall/winter 2010 must-haves.

Hey guys, welcome to my first blog post for LOU LOU! I’m really happy to be able to share my love of fashion with you, so let’s get on with it, shall we? For this first installment, I’m going to be talking about the top 5 fall ready-to-wear collections that stole my heart. Before we begin, I’d just like to throw it out there that fall is by far my favorite fashion season: break out the big cozy chunky knits, the heavy layering, the luxurious fabrics, the oversized scarves, etc… Need I say more? Now here we go, in no particular order:
Stella McCartney
I’m a minimalist at heart. I like unfussy outfits, clean lines and the least amount of trinkets. Anything that looks try-hard makes me cringe. Think Ashley Olsen circa 2008 and Kate Bosworth if you need some references. The Stella show was precisely that: the most impeccably cut trousers, refined knit tops, a monochromatic palette and amazing pointy toed pumps for a sexy ladylike finish.

Isabel Marant
Fashion is a perpetual cycle, constantly borrowing from the past and updating aesthetics to make them feel current. Miss Marant, a rising star and dare I say “it” designer as of late, channeled the 50’s rockabilly vibe rather brilliantly for her fall collection. There ain’t nothing like a little bit of rock n’ roll thrown into the mix, especially in the form of a sequined cropped trouser (trend alert! Get yourself some cropped pants for a smooth transition into cooler weather) and the perfect little leather bomber. Believe you me, this is one highly coveted collection among fashionistas the world over and I am certainly no exception!

Burberry
If you don’t have a shearling coat, you’re going to want to run out and get one. The old English brand has all the girls desperate for the temperature to drop in order to finally be able to whip out their newly acquired shearling aviator jackets. I’m telling you, one gander at this richly constructed, lust-inducing collection and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Amelia Earhart, eat your heart out!

Dries Van Noten
Dries always amazes us with his worldly collections. He definitely caters to a more mature clientele, but since we’re currently experiencing a grunge backlash, fashion girls are now coveting a level of refinement and sophistication that Mr. Van Noten can most certainly provide. The independent label that could, gaining more and more cachet as the years pass, took things up a notch this season in the form of sophisticated metallics, perfect slouchy sweaters, fantastically luxurious animal prints and cool-as-hell maxi skirts. I. Want. It. All.

3.1 Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone (it’s a tie!)
Ok so I couldn’t decide between the two, so I figured I would include them both! The Rag & Bone boys, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, hit it out of the ballpark for their first standalone women’s wear show. Their clever layering and sumptuous tweaks on otherwise common threads were sheer genius and their no fuss no muss approach simply had every editor beaming with elation. The American label basically anchored what every cool girl is going to have on her wish list this season.
Phillip Lim also had every gal in her twenties grinning. His neutral colored threads done in a too-cool-for-school fashion are sure to be every damsel’s must-haves, from New York to Paris. Lim stuck to a mainly powdery palette, injecting a fair dose of glamorous street appeal into every piece. Consistently one of my favorite collections every season, I always wait for his time slot with giddy anticipation.

Check back next friday to see which fall trends Helene will be wearing next season!
