A pinch of brilliance

sequinedvestIn the dead of winter, we tend to favour to dark, somber colours in shades of black (to suit our mood perhaps?). Why not add a little sequined brilliance to spruce up your every day look—and lift the spirits? I’m coveting this sparkling sequined vest I spotted on a lovely gal at a preview yesterday—she looked like she was literally glowing from the inside out. Stunning, huh?

What’s your perfect party look?

Club Monaco is synonymous with great office basics (with a chic twist) – who doesn’t have a perfect sweater, skirt, blazer or tee from there?

This season, the chain is also going to be one of my go-to stores for holiday outfits — their fête-ready collection is fantastic and I couldn’t resist sharing my favourite looks with you. Notice how all the season’s biggest trends are hit –  leather, knits, sequins and asymmetry – in a super sophisticated way.

Which of these looks can you see yourself sipping eggnog in?

All signs point to sequins!

Diane Kruger arrives at the CHANEL "Fete d'Hiver" Fall Gala to Benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at the Four Season in NYC.

Whether you blame fashion’s ’80s moment or just the holiday season, there’s no denying that sequins are everywhere. I don’t know about you but I am still on a shopping mission for the perfect piece but now that I’ve seen this Chanel number on Diane Kruger, everything else pales in comparison. It is perfection: The mix of black and midnight blue (so pretty), the flirty, figure-flattering A-line silhouette (skintight + sequins is not something I am willing to step out in — though Nath makes it look oh-so-easy in her French Connection number!), and the perfect little cap sleeves.

Anyone seen something similar out there? Or are you totally turned off sequins since seeing the Hoff wear them last night?

P.S. If you’re as attracted to shiny objects as I am, our glitzy November issue is definitely the one for you!

Pink Tartan: Love me some sequins!

pink-smAt Pink Tartan, designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran débuted a highly wearable collection brimming with effortless preppy-Parisian sophistication. It was chocked full of nautical stripes, attention-grabbing sequins, cropped trench coats, and a Pink Tartan staple: loads of wide-leg sailor trousers. There was also an underlying nod to au courant ’80s flair with silk jumpsuits and rompers, sheer cut-out mini-dresses and stacks of strong-shouldered silhouettes, but as with Joe Fresh Style’s underwear-as-outer-wear look, the shoulder pads sat prominently on the outside of the garments.
