If you’re looking for the hottest in nail polish this spring, look no further than your local Wal-Mart. Nicole by OPI is launching 14 awesome new shades exclusively at select Wal-Mart locations in Canada. Some of my faves include Daisy’s Lazy and Wavy Navy (pictured).

American Apparel, the brand probably more popular for their provocative ad campaigns featuring scantily clad staff-come-models than their “Made in L.A” premise, is breaking into beauty, a move that’s expected to bolster sales, with the launch of a full nail polish collection as of this past Wednesday.

Currently available on their site is Rosebud lip balm, Dr.Bronner’s Magic liquid soap and Mason Pearson brushes. The lacquer will be available at 280 stores in 20 countries and the range includes 18 shades all aptly titled from the very of-the-moment minty green “Office” to a “Downtown L.A” red, “Factory Grey” and a black shade, “Hassid,” which is a nod to the company’s Jewish roots.

Like all things American Apparel, this line of polish sounds like it’s got just the right amount of kitsch to make it a winner among the cool kids.

The more spring 2010 collections swoop down into our offices, the more I’m seeing a trend: shimmer is back– gasp! I thought I’d sworn off the digits bling, but the array of gorgeous sparklin’ shades are starting to cast their spell on me.

Case in point: Lippmann Collection nail polish in Happy Birthday. Loaded (like, really) with glittering pieces (confetti, style) it’s a party alright. My birthday just passed but the holidays are weeks away and everyone knows the 31st is the excuse to come out shining. If sequins aren’t your thing, dazzling em with this vernis is definitely a good alternative. And when the clock strikes twelve and the champagne’s flowing you’ll have the fête at your fingertips.
