Rachel wears the latest

rachelbilsonFor a recent Costco shopping trip, Rachel Bilson wore an oversized striped cropped top with belted, flared jeans for a wink at the 70’s thing that’s going to be big for fall. She paired the carefree look with an Hermès Constance bag, pulling her look together with the ladylike twist of a structured tote. While I’m not entirely sure about the fit of these pants on Rachel, I love her take on the updated jeans and t-shirt look.

What are your thoughts of her approach to some of the latest trends?

Levi’s to launch curve-catering line of denim

levis-curveid

With the fashion industry’s penchant for a more buxom figure of late, this latest Levi’s strategy is a timely one.

The 157 year old company is introducing a new fit technology and subbrand to its line of women’s jeans this coming season. Levi’s Curve ID is going to up the denim brand’s ante in curvy and shape dimensions with three curve sizes; the slight curve, the demi curve and the bold curve. Levi’s believes the three styles will cover the body types of 80 percent of women around the world. A fourth fit with an even greater curve is slated to hit shelves in December.

Robert Hanson, the president of Levi’s Strauss America believes this new denim addition will “transform the way women think about jeans.” Adding that it’s a new way of thinking about denim that’s “based on shape rather than size.”

You Nguyen, the brand’s senior vice president of women’s merchandising and design points out that the distinguishing factor of this approach is that it “focuses on the curves of a woman’s entire body and not just her waist.” Amen.  (WWD)

The Gap’s fashionable twist on denim

gap-premium-jeansIn an ongoing attempt to really buckle down on their denim roots, The Gap is setting (all) its sights on their 1969 Premium Denim line.

They’ve been raising their denim stakes for about a year now, to compete with other premium denim labels and are moving things forward with slightly higher price points ($59.95-$79) and a focus on giving their basic jean cuts and styles a continually evolving fashion forward edge (this way, they also hope to narrow in on consumers spending upwards of $110 on premium jeans from other labels).

As part of their denim strategy, this past Monday, The Gap opened a 1969 creative office (the first of it’s kind for the brand) in L.A, rolled out their fall 1969 line to 1,000+ Gap stores and launched gap1969.com a web stream where designers, fashion experts and musicians can discuss denim styles and styling tips.

They are also working on a more varied assortment of denim, from flaired styles to a black denim campaign launching in October and an increase in tops for women, to compliment the new denim styles. Throughout this fall, Gap will be adding styles to their 1969 line, highlighting various shapes from the legging jean to the wide-leg style. (WWD)

What are your thoughts on Gap’s 1969 Premium approach to denim?

Celebrate National Denim Day with BCBG jeans

pbcbg1-7157015_alternate1_dt

If you’re in the market for a pair of super-flattering jeans (and who isn’t always on the prowl for that perfect pair?!), head to a BCBG store today. Why BCBG? Because while the label is best-known for its to-die-for-frocks, its denim collection is quite extensive, affordable and the fit is incredible (Seriously: I think I tried on every style and they were all perfect.) And why today? Because in honor of National Denim Day, profits from the sale of jeans will benefit the CURE Foundation, plus you’ll be entered in a draw to win a $1,000 shopping spree at a BCBGMAXAZRIA store. (If you win, I’m sort of obsessed with jeggings. Size medium. I’d be very grateful. Thank you.)

P.S. I picked up the Myles Denim Legging (of course) pictured, Rosalie went with the Parker Denim Cropped Pants… which style do you have your eye on?

Vancouver gets a Chip+Pepper pop-up

Chip and Pepper, the Canadian twins behind the namesake label.

Chip and Pepper, the Canadian twins behind the namesake label.

After Hollywood, Winnipeg, Toronto and Kenora, Vancouver is getting its very own Chip+Pepper pop-up shop, where you’ll find both exclusive items and classic styles. It opens December 10th at Blushing Boutique (579 Richards St.) and will remain open through March.

Pssst! Rumor has it that Montreal and Toronto might be next on their pop-up shop circuit…
