The rumours were rampant over the past week with teaser videos circulating all over Twitter. Now, it’s confirmed. Lanvin will be the next fashion house to collaborate with the Swedish fast-fashion chain, H&M.
Mark your calendars for the 20th of November for North America (H&M is still working out the details of which stores will be lucky enough to carry the capsule collection) and November 23rd for the global launch. As for a glimpse at what designers Alber Elbaz (womenswear) and Lucas Ossendrijver (menswear) have in store for us, you’ll have to wait until the 2nd of November when a video of the collection will be released on hm.com.
The office (and the fashion/Twitter-verse) is a abuzz today about this fashion pow wow, wondering what the collection will feature (”a lot more leopard print” assumes @sewlounge in an @reply to louloumagazine) and what we’d be willing to line up fight for. One thing’s for sure, we can expect exquisitely designed pieces, minimalist tailoring and perfect pleating all in neutral hues (save for the exceptional vibrant animal print, perhaps?) all in the name of femininity. We can’t wait to see if Alber will design flats for this cause inspired by the famed and celebrity-coveted ones we know so well.
Are you excited for the Lanvin and H&M collab? How do you think this one chalks up to past H&M designer collabs, like Jimmy Choo, Roberto Cavalli, Matthew Williamson and Sonia Rykiel?

That's Chic's Rachel in a Rodarte for Target dress
Last fall, Target won over the fashion world with its Rodarte for Target collection and I’m still semi-sulking over not scoring one of the Mulleavy sisters’ discount tulle dresses worn so impeccably by blogger, Rachel. Next week the mass American retailer is launching yet another surefire hit with Zac Posen for Target. The capsule collection, described by Posen as “the best summer of a girl’s life” already has fashion circles abuzz with anticipation.

My love affair with the trench coat began with my first Burberry runway show — there was the signature trench in all its glory, strutting down the catwalk before me. But I have yet to afford a coveted Burberry trench and at this point I’m not even sure I need to! I have found worthy replacements, including a super cute bright green Old Navy trench that I’d been wanting — and the best part is the low (under $50) cost.
Continuing my outerwear obsession, the $35 Outerwear Sale at Suzy Shier makes me want to pick up a raincoat that I can use for running (uhm, walking very fast to and from my favourite stores). I’m really thinking a bright orange version is the way to go. Then again, how wonderful is a white trench ?
I blame the bomber jacket trend for my last and final outerwear purchase: a cute cropped leather-look jacket for $15 (originally $30) at H&M. They have lots of outerwear and blazers to choose from, including career staples in black and grey; and the most adorable floral zip-up cropped jacket at $30.

As if H&M wasn’t already conquering the world of fashion with its non-stop haute designer collabs. Yesterday, during the Sonia Rykiel for H&M showdown at Paris’ Grand Palais, the man behind the brand, Karl-Johan Persson, announced that they were planning to expand to Home stores in 2010. H&M’s Home line, while wildly coveted (or is that just Christine and I?) in North America is still yet to be available in Canada but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that with the planned expansion (which also includes new stores in South Korea and Israel) they’ll evetually set their sights on the great north giving us another favourite designing Swede (the first being Ikea) to love. Come to think of it, the Swedish sure know the definition of cheap chic!

Recyling, drinking from re-usable cups, saving water… Doing our part for the environment has become second nature. But what about fashion? If you’re like me, there are a lot of labels like Zara and XXI in your closet, brands that are definitely known more for great fashion at affordable prices then for being earth-friendly.
Enter Montreal-based (and international label) Harricana by Mariouche. Specialized in vintage furs, her boutique is a treasure trove of fur vests, coats, boots and hats of all kinds. If you’re thinking about spicing up your cold weather wardrobe with something furry – and who isn’t: fur was all over the FW09 runways – I’d definitely recommend that you pop into her store or website for something chic, snuggly and best of all, recycled.
And if you have Grandma’s coat lying around, you can bring it in and have it either made into a new style or into some accessories. Come spring, you’ll be able to do the same with wedding dresses – a gift certificate would make a perfect congrats-on-your-divorce present, no?
