This weekend I saw the recently released movie, The Single Man (the directorial debut of former YSL and Gucci designer Tom Ford)—and I was thoroughly blown away…
It’s an exceptionally thoughtful movie and you can feel Tom Ford’s impeccable good taste from opening scene to finishing credit. The story is set in California in the early 1960s and follows the journey of an emotionally-restrained college professor (Colin Firth) after the death of his long time partner. If you, like me, are missing the eye-candy-style void left by Mad Men, then I would highly recommend grabbing a box of popcorn and sitting back to enjoy this seductively beautiful masterpiece. To get you started, I’ve created a little shopping ode inspired by Colin Firth’s neighbour’s glam boudoir (a desperately lonely divorcee played by Julianne Moore).

Have you heard the news? Gucci has launched a Canada-friendly e-shopping site, making all the House’s luxe goods — from doggie beds to runway looks — available at the click of a mouse. I decided to go on a virtual shopping spree myself, and here’s what I came up with…

Flipping through LOULOU’s April issue, I found found a fab pair of shoes (actually, I found several but I tried to narrow down my blogging to one single item).
What do you think of them? Read the rest of this entry »

The Milan shows are in full force and so are the influx of reviews. I have been tapped in to the fashion newswire absorbing the goods, the bads and the uglies of fashion week. I am sad to report that Frida Giannini’s most recent Gucci collection is among the low points.
Some of the world’s most influential fashion folk are not digging the collection calling it too commercial, too “Liz Claiborne” (gasp!). NY Times Fashion reporter extraordinaire Cathy Horyn (my personal reference for all things fashion) says this, “Everything is presented in easy-to-digest units.” Not the most flattering of comments for a fashion house know for its high style and glamour.
But it doesn’t end there, no dear Cathy ain’t the only one calling the “common card”. This is Style.com’s take: “Frida Giannini is from a different generation than Milan’s other female designers, and she sees fashion from a more pragmatic standpoint. Gucci now is a clearly segmented, businesslike collection…”
