Looking ahead: FW2010

fall-trendsIt happens to me every year. Mid-summer hits, the humidity and heat warnings are in full effect (though thankfully those of a couple of weeks ago have since dissipated) and the fall winter campaigns and look books start to trickle in–ironic, isn’t it?! Being the fall fashion and wardrobe lover that I am ( I’ll take a crisp fall day, cozy knit and a soy latte any time of the year) the itch to shop for fall must-haves is undeniable (because of course, coveting warm layers makes perfect sense during a heat wave).

To help appease the urge to go bananas (thank you, Rachel Zoe) with my pocket book (thankfully the fall merchandise has barely begun to trickle in, making this semi-impossible) I’ve compiled a short list of Club Monaco must-haves on my fall winter 2010 shopping list:

Silky pants or shorts worn with cozy oversized knits or velour cardis.

Wrap or oversized coats in camel beige.

Sandals or wooden wedges worn with ruched ankle socks.

I don’t want to wish away the summer, but…colder weather come on!

What are the trends or fall pieces you’re looking forward to?

Club Monaco taps into the blogosphere

qa_r2I love Club Monaco. Whenever I’m craving a wardrobe pick me up, the Polo Ralph Lauren owned retailer’s of-the-moment spin on forever pieces always comes through. And we won’t even get started on their recently launched statement jewelry collection, which is completely irresistible.

Another thing I love? Blogging. So needless to say finding out that Paris-based illustrator/blogger/photographer and Scott “Sartorialist” Schuman’s leading lady, Garance Doré was shooting Club Monaco’s fall winter look book (the second time the brand has ever created a model look book), kind of felt like worlds colliding.

A small crew, including fashion fiend model Byrdie Bell hit NYC’s Meatpacking District and West Village to shoot the pretty faces in Club Monaco’s fall winter finest. Between Garance’s high-fashion aesthetic and Club Monaco’s preppy-glamour collection this collaboration has MUST-HAVE written all over it! First up on my wishlist? The Ashton skirt in look 15.

See the entire look book here and be sure to check out the behind the scenes video and Q&A with Garance Doré.

Holiday accessories galore at Breakfast TV: Yesterday

holidayaccessPerhaps it’s just me but when I start penciling the word December in my notebook, it officially feels like winter—and then holiday mode kicks into high gear. Besides scrambling to find last minute holiday gifts, many of us start the hunt for festive accessories to add an instant hit of glitz and glamour (it’s also an inexpensive way of recycling a LBD and making it fresh again–hint, hint!) This year the accessory trends are gorgeous and fabulous: bejeweled and sparkling, ornate and dramatic. So yesterday, I spent the morning at Breakfast TV with the lovely Dina Pugliese (click on this link to watch) highlighting some truly outstanding holiday accessories, from clutches and drool-worthy shoes (the blue Sex and The City proposal shoe made an little appearance), to statement necklaces and a to-die-for glam faux-fur wrap from Club Monaco. I didn’t get through half of the items I brought with me (we ran out of time, boo!!), but I have listed the brand, retailer and price of each of the items pointed out during the segment, to help you shop from yesterday’s show. Spirit fingers

Those 15ËšC days Liv mentioned were definitely a bonus, but we Canadian gals know better than to presume this chilly weather isn’t here to stay. And although it’s tempting to hide under multiple layers of black and grey as we settle into winter, a dose of cheerful colour can go a long way when it comes to facing dreary winter days.

A colourful coat would definitely do the trick, but the easiest and most affordable way to brighten up your cold-weather look is with vibrant accessories, such as suede and leather gloves in happy hues like purple, turquoise and fuchsia. As a bonus, your hands will look lovely as you wave buh-bye to frostbite!
