Get your shopping shoes on: this Thursday!

Nothing feels quite as good as a wardrobe-updating shopping spree. How about a shopping spree on someone else’s dime? How does a cool $1000 sound? What would you say if you won two $1000 shopping sprees? Now I’m talking, huh?

Then this Thursday I hope you’ll join me along with the rest of the LOULOU team for a shopping party at Shops at Don Mills  in Toronto (the cool outdoor mall has just passed it’s first birthday, so we thought we’d host a birthday party celebration at the mall!). There’ll be loads of activities starting at 5pm: The first 100 fashionistas to pop by Guest Services will receive a $10 gift card “shop card” to the mall. If you make a $50+ purchase you’ll get a little loot bag (be sure to hurry as it’s only for the first 200 shoppers). Feeling a bit knackered from all your shopping? Refuel in the LOULOU Lounge inside the Rogers store—and give us a peak at what you bought. While you rest your tired shopping footies on our white lounge ottomans, indulge your sweet tooth at our Candy and Cupcake bar. If you’re feeling a bit weary get a mini-mani indulgence and make-up touch-up from Donato Salon and Spa. And be sure to enter to win one of those $1000 shopping sprees I was talk about–draws will be happening all night long. So, as you can see,  if there is one-night to shop this week, I’d recommend this Thursday! Activities commence at 5pm until 9pm. I hope to see you out shopping! Click here to get all the deets.

Wanna know what exactly has made my shopping short list at Shops at Don Mills? Here are a few of my favourite things.

The Single Man: Pure Style

This weekend I saw the recently released movie, The Single Man (the directorial debut of former YSL and Gucci designer Tom Ford)—and I was thoroughly blown away…charlotte2-sm1

It’s an exceptionally thoughtful movie and you can feel Tom Ford’s impeccable good taste from opening scene to finishing credit. The story is set in California in the early 1960s and follows the journey of an emotionally-restrained college professor (Colin Firth) after the death of his long time partner. If you, like me, are missing the eye-candy-style void left by Mad Men, then I would highly recommend grabbing a box of popcorn and sitting back to enjoy this seductively beautiful masterpiece. To get you started, I’ve created a little shopping ode inspired by Colin Firth’s neighbour’s glam boudoir (a desperately lonely divorcee played by Julianne Moore).

A retro find: Vintage rotary phone

rotaryphone-smI adore mixing modern decor with antique treasures. So while perusing around Anthropologie yesterday evening, I thought the home décor gods where smiling down on me when I spotted this adorably quirky yellow vintage rotary phone. It would be the ideal addition to my bedroom: Perched on my night-table in my nearly all-white bedroom (with a few black accents), this would add a gorgeous pop of vibrant mod style. Who cares that I don’t even have a home phone line! My heart sank when I flipped over the phone and glanced at the price tag: $238. Wowzers!? If only I had kept my parent’s rotary phone from the early ’80s. Perhaps it pays to be a packrat?

Anthropologie, Vintage Rotary Phone, $238 (instore)/$215 (online)

VAWK by Sunny Fong: Sexy sweet ruffles tops my list

vawk-sm1Officially kicking off LG fashion week, VAWK by Sunny Fong debuted a small 12-piece collection to a packed house yesterday (guests included fellow Project Runway alumni Evan Biddell, Carlie Wong and Jessica Biffi and as I tweeted, Dina Pugliese of BT fame). The serene cream walls and beech wood accents of the AGO suited the aesthetic of Fong’s French Polynesia-inspired spring show: this collection was feminine and refined. With a predominately nude colour palette peppered with dashes of fuchsia and red, Fong played with textures like pleated dresses, tiered ruffled detailing on tops and skirts and perforated leather. There were two star looks from the show: a striking pleated floor-length, open back frock in light gold with bursts of fuchsia along the hem. I also fell for a sweetly sexy, eye-catching ruffled top paired with the sand leather skirt.

I’ve long thought that ruffles are the ultimate, flirty spring detail and it just so happens that they are enjoying a heightened popularity this fall. Read the rest of this entry »

Mother’s Day gifts: Last minute ideas

main-dovespa-600What do mothers want for Mother’s Day? If your mom is anything like my mine, she always says, “Nothing, honey.” I’m sorry, but I know that would never, ever fly. And even if it did, how silly, not to mention guilty would I feel showing up empty handed?!

To combat the guilt factor, click on the jump to read my list of suggestions for this Sunday’s main event.
