Canadian beauty Rachel McAdams wows TIFF crowd

Canadian beauty Rachel McAdams had quite the homecoming at this year’s TIFF. The London, ON native was walking the red carpet in honour of her new film The Lucky Ones. The role is quite a stretch from her cinematic beginnings opposite Lilo in Mean Girls. This time around she plays an US soldier on leave from a tour in Iraq who meets up with two other soldiers (Tim Robbins and Michael Peña) on an interested journey home.

Movies aside, McAdams has been getting lots of attention for her red carpet style. She always looks stunning and never plays into the clichés of garish gowns.

Get a glimpse of her red carpet style. Read the rest of this entry »

What would a festival be without Paris?

I mentioned in an earlier post that the Paris Hilton party was held Monday night. I think it overshadowed most of the other events that evening — after all, it’s Paris. The celebutante just knows how to rock it. She was in town promoting the documentary all about her life Paris, Not France. The film claims to give an insider look into the life of the heiress. To date reviews have been quite kind, even saying that the film gives us the flip side of the dumb blond persona Miss Hilton has created for herself. Journalist and filmmaker Adria Petty directed the film (she was previously pumping out music videos) and got dear Paris to open up about her jet-set life.

But Paris wasn’t the only star in town. Read the rest of this entry »

More stars come out to play at TIFF

Adrian Brody at TIFF 2008It’s the halfway point of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and it just seems that stars are falling from the skies in TO. Unbelievable, every where your turn there’s another celeb to spot. On Monday night there was the Paris Hilton party which brought out throngs of Hollywood types (and their devoted, autograph seeking fans). And the premiers just keep on coming! Afiya mentioned to you in an earlier post that Adrien Brody was among the guests at Sunday’s LOULOU party. He is in town promoting his new film The Brothers Bloom, which costars the gorgeous Rachel Weisz and actor Mark Ruffalo. The madness at the LOULOU party was nowhere near as frenzied as his recent red carpet appearance, our events were more on the lounge-y low key side.

LOULOU also hosted the after party for the new Kate Beckinsale film, Nothing But The Truth. The stellar class of this political dram includes Alan Alda, Angela Bassett and Matt Dillon. We were plagued by cold rains on Monday — I was caught in it and drenched to the bone — so I missed the appearance by the stars at the party. But my LOULOU insiders assure me it was the place to be!

That aside, Ms Beckinsale is fast becoming quite the fashion icon. To the premier of the film she wore a fab cocktail dress.

Star sightings: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Anne Hathway and more

Toronto truly has transformed into Hollywood north for the duration of the TIFF with stars popping up everywhere (not only at parties and premiers). Miss Anne Hathaway has been creating quite the buzz not only for her fab fashion sense but also her stunning performance in Rachel Getting Married (the words Oscar nod have been mentioned more than once).

This morning I indulged in breakfast at Pusateri’s (my fave coffee stop when I am in TO). I decided to detour down Cumberland St. on my way to the cafe, when low and behold a star was ahead of me (the big bad body guard was a dead giveaway). It was nearly 10am and the streets were really quiet. I got the impression that some sort of promo was being filmed. I approached nonchalantly — my oversized shades covering my eyes, my scarf throw casually around my neck, I tried my best to be cool ;) — and slowed my pace. So who do you ask did I spy: Mr George Clooney (either that or his doopleganger). He was leaning casually against a railing smiling at the camera. I took a double-take to be sure it was him (the smile was a dead giveaway). I moved onto the street to avoid bothering the shoot. Then I heard that buttery smooth voice of his. I have no confirmation it was him (I was not going to break my cool demeanour by turning into a gushing fan) but my star-dar (read: star radar) is generally pretty realiable.

Wyclef Jean rocks the LOULOU party

Last night the LOULOU party in question that I attended was a Sony BMG event. It was held at the stylish W Studio which had been dressed up as a lounge/club for the evening. Former Fugee and star-in-his-own-right Wyclef Jean sauntered into the lounge around 7:10pm. He was inconspicuous at first (well as can be) except for the deep burgundy and gold satin track suit (think Vegas boxer gear). He was mingling with the peeps and posing for photos. He was espescially accommodating with the gaggle of girls ;)

His purpose for being at the party was to DJ a set for the invitees. Once he set up behind the turntables and mixers the party started to rock. He had to coax the crowd to the dance floor a bit by kicking it old school with Fugees classic “Killing me sofly” (”This is the Fugees, where I came from, not the Black Eyed Peas,” he shouted). From that moment on, the crowd was his…

Wyclef gets a congo line going Read the rest of this entry »
