Flipping through our March issue, I’m sure you spotted a couple of our models wearing the latest bare leg styling technique: socks with heels. Yeap, socks, stretched half way up the calf paired with pumps, platforms, open-toed shoes… you name it! Once considered a god-awful, tourist-in-action fashion faux pas, this spring it’s poised to be the hottest new craze. Models on the spring Burberry runway sported nude platform heels with nude socks and right here on Canadian soil, models at Joe Fresh Style strutted in clogs paired with crisp white knee-highs–a look straight out of a retro ’50s movie. The nude-on-nude vibe is the easiest to wear—it looks like a pair of booties from afar—but to me, this styling technique is a very slippery slope.
So I gotta know: will you sport this cool, unexpected look when the snow starts to melt? Or are you going to steer clear of this trend and leave it in the hands (erm, feet) of the clueless tourist?

…and you can make it happen by buying a pair! Oprah recently gave her closet a good spring cleaning and is putting up more than 150 items on eBay (YSL stilettos anyone?) today. Proceeds will go to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. The auction starts at 11am EST today.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit, but over the span of one holiday shopping day, I managed to slap down my credit card for five pairs of delightfully new shoes (my new best friends include Diane von Furstenberg sandals, Giuseppe Zanotti suede boots, and Fendi white wedge heels–WOOT WOOT!) Shoe sales have that super-natural power of getting the better of me. Throw into the mix my all too encouraging sister (a.k.a. my shopping-partner-in-crime) plus a long over-due visit to Holt Renfrew Last Call and Style Sense and it was without a doubt impossible to resist the marvelous bargains on hand. Not surprisingly, my shoe wardrobe is splitting at the seams. I did a quick tally last night and counted 76 pairs of shoes—and all in regular rotation I might add (except my running shoes—I still haven’t been able to get my sluggish butt to the gym, one of my nagging New Year’s Resolutions). This number doesn’t include the box of approx 30 shoes I finally got around to dropping off at a nearby consignment store and Goodwill.
Does this seem like an outrageously high footwear number to you? Am I a doomed shoe-a-holic? Is your shoe count on par or even higher? Or, is your tally lower, but more targeted and better used? I’m curious, do you practise better self control? This question is surely worthy of an entertaining, mid-week poll.

So, it’s your go-to destination for tailored shirts, chic little dresses and sophisticated office garb. And this fall it was the destination for ornate jewelry, pretty bobbles and glittering trinkets (remember that gorgeously elaborate necklace dangling from the neck of our October cover model?) Well, move over Brown Shoes, Banana Republic now sells our favorite accessory: shoes! Starting this week, select Banana Republic stores across Canada will carry pumps, ballet flats and boots from $89-$250. Phew, at least that’s one less thing to fib about to Canadian customs officials when we sheepishly return home from our one-day shopping sprees down south. Shoes will be available at the following stores: Toronto (Bloor Street, Toronto Eaton Center, Sherway Gardens), Vancouver’s Robson Street, and Calgary Eaton Center.
Top: Ramsey Peep Toe Wedge, ($98); bottom from left: Page Ballet Flat ($89), Vera Slingback ($120).

Perhaps it’s just me but when I start penciling the word December in my notebook, it officially feels like winter—and then holiday mode kicks into high gear. Besides scrambling to find last minute holiday gifts, many of us start the hunt for festive accessories to add an instant hit of glitz and glamour (it’s also an inexpensive way of recycling a LBD and making it fresh again–hint, hint!) This year the accessory trends are gorgeous and fabulous: bejeweled and sparkling, ornate and dramatic. So yesterday, I spent the morning at Breakfast TV with the lovely Dina Pugliese (click on this link to watch) highlighting some truly outstanding holiday accessories, from clutches and drool-worthy shoes (the blue Sex and The City proposal shoe made an little appearance), to statement necklaces and a to-die-for glam faux-fur wrap from Club Monaco. I didn’t get through half of the items I brought with me (we ran out of time, boo!!), but I have listed the brand, retailer and price of each of the items pointed out during the segment, to help you shop from yesterday’s show.
