World-class design inspiration at IDS10 on this weekend

This weekend Canada’s largest contemporary design show, the Interior Design Show/IDS10 lands in Toronto. If you’re hunting for modern home decor inspiration, or just want to ogle some of the best in world-class design from renowned or hot, up-and-coming talent (300+ exhibitors are on hand), then this is one show you don’t want to miss. I had a sneak peak last night and I’m now suffering from a serious case of home décor envy, not to mention the fact that I’ve got new ideas sprouting right, left and centre that I want to incorporate into my condo. Hmmmm, the Home Renovation Tax Credit expires at the end of the January, perhaps I need to get hustling if I want to take advantage of up to $1,350 in savings?

Not matter what your budget, you’ll find inspiration at every price-point. Below are a few images from exhibitors at this year’s show (clock-wise from top left): a budget-friendly Ikea living room, a sketch of the luxurious bathroom on display at IDS10 inspired by Calvin Klein’s perfume Euphoria, and a dream walk-in closet by LEMA and a ultra-sleek kitchen by Scavolini.

The IDS10 presented by RADO is open to the public on January 23 and 24 at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. Tickets are available at the door or at interiordesignshow.com.

A retro find: Vintage rotary phone

rotaryphone-smI adore mixing modern decor with antique treasures. So while perusing around Anthropologie yesterday evening, I thought the home décor gods where smiling down on me when I spotted this adorably quirky yellow vintage rotary phone. It would be the ideal addition to my bedroom: Perched on my night-table in my nearly all-white bedroom (with a few black accents), this would add a gorgeous pop of vibrant mod style. Who cares that I don’t even have a home phone line! My heart sank when I flipped over the phone and glanced at the price tag: $238. Wowzers!? If only I had kept my parent’s rotary phone from the early ’80s. Perhaps it pays to be a packrat?

Anthropologie, Vintage Rotary Phone, $238 (instore)/$215 (online)

New Moon fever: Only 3 more days to go!

twi-mainFellow die-hard twihards, this is the week we’ve all been waiting for! We have patiently waited an agonizing 364-days for the next chapter of the Twilight saga and now New Moon, the latest installment of the uber-popular book-to-movie franchise is within reach: it hits theatres this Friday! YaHOO!! To pass the time we have memorized nearly every word in the series (not to mention the first movie), closely followed the blurry are-they-or-aren’t-they-together paparazzi photos of Edward and Bella er, Pattinson and Steward, forwarded emails to our fellow twihard friends of a shirtless, not-even-legal (!) Taylor Lauter (aka Jacob) in the New Moon trailer and stared dreamily at the Edward doll sitting on our desks (erm, okay maybe that last one is just me—he was a gift from my adoring husband, who’s middle name just happens to be Edward. Sigh.) To read more, click on the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
