BootsOk girls, now that winter is sneaking up on us,  it means that we get to pull some of our fantastic winter stuff out of storage, as well as adding a few, well-chosen, new items to our winter wardrobes.   My very favourite winter items are boots.  They can be this year’s glossy black over-the-knee stiletto boots, or last year’s furry cowboy boots. The point is, I just love ‘em to death and would wear them all year long if it wouldn’t make me look–and feel–like a bizarre nuevo art piece.

On the runways, the new thigh-high boots are generally paired with some sort of minidress, which looks way too cute for words–on the runway.  Unfortunately, we don’t live on a runway. We live in Canada where winter temperatures range from 0oC to -40oC with a windchill of -60oC during the coldest of our winter months.  In this, our natural environment, the thigh-high/minidress combo looks less Parisian chic and more Rankin Inlet ridiculous.

There are a few ways to get past this flash-frozen fashion factor.  Try to remember that wearing mini-anything during a typical Canadian winter, even if paired with the dreamiest of dream boots, will make you look like one of those women who wears dark jeans and a sweatshirt when it’s 25oC in the summer. Luckily, Canadian girls have always been hardy and adaptable. Try pairing those long lean thigh-highs with cute jeans and a tunic sweater.
