Editor’s picks: Fall fashion

melsfallpickspsd

In case you haven’t already noticed with the size of our September issue (on newsstands now) and our topic penchant on the blog, we’re a little fall wardrobe obsessed here at LOULOU. What better way to kick off one of our favourite seasons than to share our editor’s picks for fall. In the inspirational context of money being no object, here’s a glimpse at the inspired-by pieces on our FW10 shopping lists.

LOULOU’s Fashion and Beauty Coordinator, Mélanie Voyer is a Chanel girl at heart and her FW10 picks are (like the brand she adores) as classic as they are timeless. Her ultimate wish list? A Chanel 2.55 bag: “It’s not called a wish list for nothing. A girl can dream and this bag has been on my list forever!”

In the meantime,  Mélanie channels her favourite runway collections by picking up key pieces at her go-to shopping haunt, H&M. So if you loved her picks, heading over to the Swedish chain with an inspired-by approach is a good place to start your fall shopping!

Previous featured editor’s picks: Marlie Beaudin, Joanie Pietracupa.

Confirmed: Lanvin and H&M

lanvin-hm

The rumours were rampant over the past week with teaser videos circulating all over Twitter. Now, it’s confirmed. Lanvin will be the next fashion house to collaborate with the Swedish fast-fashion chain, H&M.

Mark your calendars for the 20th of November for North America (H&M is still working out the details of which stores will be lucky enough to carry the capsule collection) and November 23rd for the global launch. As for a glimpse at what designers Alber Elbaz (womenswear) and Lucas Ossendrijver (menswear) have in store for us, you’ll have to wait until the 2nd of November when a video of the collection will be released on hm.com.

The office (and the fashion/Twitter-verse) is a abuzz today about this fashion pow wow, wondering what the collection will feature (”a lot more leopard print” assumes @sewlounge in an @reply to louloumagazine) and what we’d be willing to line up fight for. One thing’s for sure, we can expect exquisitely designed pieces, minimalist tailoring and perfect pleating all in neutral hues (save for the exceptional vibrant animal print, perhaps?) all in the name of femininity. We can’t wait to see if Alber will design flats for this cause inspired by the famed and celebrity-coveted ones we know so well.

Are you excited for the Lanvin and H&M collab? How do you think this one chalks up to past H&M designer collabs, like Jimmy Choo, Roberto Cavalli, Matthew Williamson and Sonia Rykiel?

Anne Hathaway’s new (short) hair

anne-hathwayThe hottest Hollywood hairstyle these days? Anything cropped.  For her new film role, One Day, Anne Hathaway has joined the ranks of other pixie cut-lovers like Carey Mulligan and Emma Watson. Only Hathaway’s new chopped off hairstyle is more boyish than fairy. I preferred her shoulder-length feminine hair (but i’m partial to long hair).  What do you think of Hathaway’s new sideswept bob?

The Emmys: The best of

emmys1

The 62nd annual Emmy Awards took place at the Nokia theater in Los Angeles where prime time’s biggest names and faces put their best feet forward, dressed to impress. After haphazardly tuning into the awards show, two things are clear:

1. Funny man Jimmy Fallon completely charmed his way to my heart with his Glee (I’m a huge fan of the show) teamed Springsteen cover of Born to Run

2. January Jones stole.the.red.carpet.

Where red-carpet looks are generally speaking unsurprising (Can OTT red-carpet looks please be vaulted?!), January Jones raised the bar in an iridescent royal blue Atelier Versace gown, which got a modern twist paired with her wispy-styled coif (the genius of which is how well it would also work by day), giving her overall soirée look just the right amount of carefree. Judging by your all your @replies on Twitter, you don’t disagree.

Runner up to Jones’ magnetic look was (Emmy-winner) Claire Danes scintillating strapless Armani Privé dress. A more classic approach to the evening’s dress code, Danes simply sparkled!

In terms of misses, The Hills’ Lo Bosworth could have forgone the ageing updo and unflattering dress while Rita Wilson (so sorry Tom!) hit all the wrong notes in my books when she  successfully managed to ruin one of my favourite SS10 Prada dresses (yes, a matching head to toe chandelier look IS considered OTT).

Who wore your favourite Emmy’s looks last night? Tweet us @louloumagazine!

Beaty beat: Black magic

o-noir1 One might think that after seeing allllllllllll the beauty tricks that pass through our offices, the novelty would wear off but thanks to the nature of the  industry  getting bored is hardly an occupational hazard. Sometimes, they even manage to surprise you.

I’m a lipstick girl. Gloss’ sticky factor doesn’t appeal to me in the least but leave it to  Smashbox’s O-Gloss Noir to change my mind. A sister gloss to the original O-Gloss Noir, this limited edition lip smacker goes on black initially until it blends with your skin’s chemistry to reveal a customized crushed berry hue. Yielding the perfect just-been-kissed effect, we couldn’t deny ourselves this magic trick!
